Our lab and offices are located on the seventh floor of the historic Mellon Institute. The lab features a “dirty section” where high-concentration samples and neat standards are handled and a “clean section” where trace-level work is completed. We are currently under renovation to add a BSL II space, including another hood and mass spectrometer. This space will be primarily dedicated to work with biological samples.

Our central instrument room houses an Agilent 6560 ion mobility quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometer (IM-QTOF-MS) and two interchangeable sample introduction systems – a liquid chromatography system with electrospray ionization (ESI) for traditional analysis of soluble organic contaminants and a gas chromatography system with atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) for analysis of neutral volatiles.
